Laughing Conservative, having narrowly survived the death of a thousand cuts  in London, is now back in The Land of the Free, after being assisted by large  numbers of perfectly nice hijab-clad persons both at Heathrow and Dulles. Dim Crims: Man attempts to hide in a cactus

Luis Briones, 25, was having sex when he lost control of his car and crashed the vehicle, ejecting his naked female companion onto a New Mexico roadway, police report.
According to police, Briones ran a red light and slammed his Ford Explorer into another car on an Albuquerque street. The impact of the collision forced Natasha Carroll, 21, from Briones’s SUV.
With a bloodied Carroll lying in the road, Briones  attempted to flee the accident scene, witnesses told Albuquerque Police Department officers. After a witness confiscated his keys, Briones "attempted to "hide in a cactus."

The eye-popping cost of lifting eyelids

Aging Americans with droopy upper eyelids often rely on the plastic surgeon’s scalpel to fix the problem. Increasingly, Medicare is paying. Medicare typically does not cover cosmetic surgery, but when a patient’s sagging eyelids significantly hinder their vision, it does pay to have them lifted. In recent years, though, a rapid rise in the number of so-called functional eyelid lifts, or blepharoplasty, has led some to question whether Medicare is letting procedures that are really cosmetic slip through the cracks — at a cost of millions.
As the Obama administration and Congress battle to restrain Medicare’s growing cost, critics say program administrators should more closely inspect procedures like blepharoplasty to prevent  taxpayers being ripped off. More  [Thanks BJS]

Barack Obama's Diary: Out of the heat

Dear Diary: At last! Congress  has had to shaddup for the Memorial Day weekend. Today I was finally able  to escape from being in the the media cross-hairs over Benghazi and the IRS and instead to make nice for the cameras with  Governor Chris Christie who earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records, not for the length of his belt, but the length of the ribbon  he cut to symbolically reopen the Jersey shore. I'm impressed by his PR style [Note to self:  ask Jarrett to set up similar events ready to be triggered when the heat gets turned up again in DC.]  Meantime I'm looking forward to concluding my weekend tonight by curling up with my comfort blankie, Boo-boo. Butchers of Woolwich: The Brit's eye view.

Laughing Conservative has  been happily languishing among plump Hereford cattle and grazing sheep, deep in the  English countryside.  This has enabled assessment -- free of media hysteria -- of an average Brit's reaction to the public decapitation of a young father in a London street. On the surface the stiff upper lip prevails, but there is a deep fury at what has happened. Butchering  random victims by beheading them in the street is a horrendous yet highly effective form of terrorism, requiring no support network, no explosives and  no transport, so we have to presume the jihadists will continue it.  Most people I've talked to, I've known well for years so I  can assess their mood accurately and they had no reason to be inhibited in talking to me. It will only take one or two  more similar  attacks for the public to  demand the arming of all police. On a less subtle level  there will be a sharp rise in vigilantism,  desecration of mosques, etc.  I have been digging tirelessly to establish if the mildness of British reaction is due to apathy. Far from it. It will play out in direct proportion to ongoing jihadist savagery.

Was Obama high on the night of Benghazi?

"If you’ve ever known anyone who is a drug addict, you’d see it’s obvious that Barack Obama was high on cocaine the night of Benghazi; it is the only logical explanation for his disappearance and the White House’s refusal to comment on what he was doing at the time," writes  the gay conservative political commentator Kevin DuJan, who goes on to indulge in some even wilder speculation as to the president's possible other activities that night."Since this was a night of great crisis for our country, the only logical reason that the White House won’t explain where the president was, is if this man was high as a kite on illegal narcotics at the time," writes DuJan." Such an examination would not come from black politicians, civil rights leaders or the black and white liberal elite. Barack Obama's Diary: Cameron, Camer off

After my usual  morning briefing it was time to meet British Prime Minister Cameron."Good Morning  Cameron Diaz, old chap, " I said to him breezily.  He gave me a puzzled glance: We had a meeting for an hour or so about things  which are for  for me to know and others to guess. Rest assured, though, that I told him how to sort out Britain's problems which are mostly rooted in the colonization of Kenya. Afterwards, Mr. Diaz and I held a media conference during which some tactless hack raised the question of Benghazi. Senator quits over Obamacare

Democratic senator Max Baucus is retiring because he is “fed up” with the Affordable Care Act, according to his Republican colleague Chuck Grassley. Speaking at Friday night’s Lincoln Day dinner in Iowa, Grassley told the audience the Montana senator is leaving office ”because he’s so fed up with the possibility of the implementation of Obamacare being a train wreck.”
Baucus, the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, played a key role in writing the 2010 law.
Grassley said that dissatisfaction with the health-care bill exists across party lines, describing a “bipartisan coalition in Washington” that considers the implementation of the law a disaster. “It’s a shame that a trainwreck even left the station a couple years ago,” he added, referring to Baucus’s now-infamous statement of frustration.
The 79-year-old Iowa senator also used his remarks to inveigh against the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill. A member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Grassley has been one of the most outspoken opponents of the legislation. Referring to the 1986 immigration act signed into law by President Reagan, which legalized millions of illegal immigrants, he said, ”I want you to know that we screwed up in 1986.”
He concluded, “Today, we have 11 million people who came into our country illegally. The lesson learned: You reward illegality, you get more of it.” [Thanks ECS]

Another cover-up: this time at the IRS

Senior Internal Revenue Service officials knew agents were targeting tea party groups as early as 2011, according to a draft of an inspector general's report obtained by The Associated Press that seemingly contradicts public statements by the IRS commissioner.
IRS apologized Friday for what it acknowledged was "inappropriate" targeting of conservative political groups during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status. The agency blamed low-level employees, saying no high-level officials were aware.
But on June 29, 2011, Lois G. Lerner, who heads the IRS division that oversees tax-exempt organizations, learned at a meeting that groups were being targeted, according to the watchdog's report. At the meeting, she was told that groups with "Tea Party," `'Patriot" or "9/12 Project" in their names were being flagged for additional and often burdensome scrutiny, the report says.  [Thanks: BJS, ECS]

Do not underestimate the significance of  Friday's White House Press conference, warns David Steinberg: "The Obama administration has not faced such an onslaught of truth-seeking since he took office in 2008, and further, no Democratic administration has been charged from all sides like this in recent memory.
"For a left-leaning reporter – as surveys have confirmed most are – watching the WH Press Corps attack a Democratic administration regarding a scandal that could very well topple it, must objectively represent a career-turning event.
"Just hours earlier, many lefty journalists still felt exceedingly comfortable advancing the administration talking points, offering denigrating coverage of the whistleblowers, the “wingnut conspiracy theorists,” and conservatives in general. Professionally, this meant offering subpar commentary with little chance of notable criticism penetrating the MSM bubble. But now?"  Learn more

Barack Obama's Diary: Sandtraps

Dear Diary: Saturday has arrived and not a moment too soon. The heat over Benghazi has been getting uncomfortable even for a cool guy like myself.  I decided to escape to the golf course with aides Marvin  Nicholson,  Mike Brush and Joe Paulsen. When Valerie Jarrett cautioned against  the possible bad PR, I replied: "What, at this point, does it matter?" This has bcome a mantra around here as in:  "The IRS has been targeting conservatives."... What at this point does it matter.  " The Benghazi talking points were edited not once but 12 times" ...What at this point does it matter? " ...."You may be impeached over Benghazi." What at this point  does it... aaaugh! you're kidding me!
I need to unwind by unleashing a Predator.  I've got Hagel on speed-dial on my iPhone: "Chuck," I said,  "you guys got any  hot targets? An American in Yemen? Great...Fire at will."   Now I feel better. But enough about me.

Obamaniacs mandate absurd college speech codes

The Obama Administration seems to be losing its collective mind. On the very same day that we learn of multiple lies about Benghazi, that the IRS deliberately targeted  conservatives, we now learn that the U.S. Departments of Justice and Education have joined together to mandate that virtually every college and university in the United States establish unconstitutional speech codes that violate the First Amendment and decades of legal precedent.
"I am appalled by this attack on free speech on campus from our own government," said Greg Lukianoff, president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), which has been leading the fight against unconstitutional speech codes on America's college campuses since its founding in 1999. "In 2011, the Department of Education took a hatchet to due process protections for students accused of sexual misconduct. Now the Department of Education has enlisted the help of the Department of Justice to mandate campus speech codes so broad that virtually every student will regularly violate them. The DOE and DOJ are ignoring decades of legal decisions, the Constitution, and common sense, and it is time for colleges and the public to push back." More

Shock: IRS admits targeting conservatives

The Internal Revenue Service inappropriately flagged conservative political groups for additional reviews during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status, a top IRS official said Friday.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky called on the White House to investigate:
"Today's acknowledgement by the Obama administration that the IRS did in fact target conservative groups in the heat of last year's national election is not enough,"  Mitch McConnell said. "I call on the White House to conduct a transparent, government-wide review aimed at assuring the American people that these thuggish practices are not under way at the IRS or elsewhere in the administration against anyone, regardless of their political views." Barack Obama's Diary: Ich bin Übermensch

Dear Diary: Guten Tag! I am visiting Berlin next month to reprise my famed appearance there in 1998. Himmel, what a day that was!  I was Ubermensch, Superman! Some 200,000 people crowded the streets hanging on to my every word. I am already brushing up my German so that I can impress Angela Merkel as we meet for "discussions" [and I tell her how to fix Europe].  It will also be the anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's visit when he famously said: "Ich bin ein Berliner" which does not -- as he thought -- mean "I am a Berliner," but "I am a little bear." Not a gaffe I'm likely to make, given my vast education. I will point this out to Fraulein Merkel. One my aides said it should be "Frau" Merkel. Fraulein, schmaulein...whatever. I have also been practicing my salute: Right arm extended forward and accompanied by a crisply-spoken "Heil". This is sure to impress Angela and all other Germans. But enough about me.

News for parental units
