Is Obama preparing a US Afghanistan surrender?

Powerline  raises this provocative question and reveals that this  is what expert Andrew McCarthy thinks is happening. Apparently  the  Muslim Brotherhood's  Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi  -- a man dedicated to  world domination  by Islam--  has been recruited by the US  to mediate secret negotiations with the Taliban. Details here.
Imagine  what US combatants holed up in some freezing bunker in Afghanistan, must feel, enduring daily terror, the  death  and crippling of their comrades, knowing that all the sacrifice could  soon be thrown away just so that a politician can claim to have ended two wars and boost his chances for re-election.  Despicable. Obama  has no moral right to ask this of brave men. It's like Churchill  and FDR  invading Nazi-occupied Europe while simultaneously negotiating with Hitler for a withdrawal  of Allied troops.

This time last year Professor William Jacobson made  his predictions for 2011.  Now he has graded them. The results are  remarkable. See here.

Iran blinks in stare-down with US

Iran delayed promised long-range missile tests in the Gulf on Saturday and Tehran signaled it was ready for fresh talks on its disputed nuclear program, Reuters reports. "Iran's state media initially reported early on Saturday that long-range missiles had been launched during naval exercises, a move that may irk the West concerned over threats by Tehran to close off a vital oil shipping route in the Gulf. But Deputy Navy Commander Mahmoud Mousavi later went on the English-language Press TV channel to deny the missiles had in fact been fired." Read it all.

A tidal wave of Obama-bred crime is coming

Doug Ross makes a chilling  and convincing prediction of a massive crime wave.
Here, in essence,  is his logic:
 • Fact: There are a record number of Americans dependent upon government anti-poverty programs thanks to the Obama Democrats.
• Fact: Expanded access to welfare and food stamps greatly increases the number of children born to unwed mothers
• Fact: Single-parent families correlate to higher crime rates
• Conclusion: with the unprecedented increase in welfare, food stamps and unemployment, we will also see an unparalleled increase in violent crime within the next dozen or so years. Read it all.

Why Britain's future lies with America

In 1952, then-U.S. Secretary of State Dean Acheson said that "Britain has lost an empire but has failed to find a role." Sadly for Britain, it decided to renounce its longstanding global cultural, legal and philosophical links to North America and instead looked for that role in Europe, says  a fascinating opinion piece in The Wall Street Journal. "Despite its geographic proximity to Britain, the Continent is nevertheless home to a host of cultures, legal systems and governing philosophies very different from those of ...Britain. The consequences from that bad choice have bedeviled Britain for decades. Now, as a result of Prime Minister David Cameron's stance at the recent EU summit, Britain and Europe are at a crossroads. America could help Britain make the right choice, to both countries' mutual benefit." Read  it all.

Reich predicts Obama-Clinton ticket

Robert Reich, former Bill Clinton Labor Secretary, says: "My political prediction for 2012 (based on absolutely no inside information): Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden swap places. Biden becomes Secretary of State — a position he’s apparently coveted for years. And Hillary Clinton, Vice President. So the Democratic ticket for 2012 is Obama-Clinton. Why do I say this? Because Obama needs to stir the passions and enthusiasms of a Democratic base that’s been disillusioned with his cave-ins to regressive Republicans. Hillary Clinton on the ticket can do that."

Nanny Bammy's Labor Dept. to regulate farm kids

Dawn Buell had twice as many applicants as corn detasseling jobs this past summer. The young workers love the money, she said, and they're not scared off by the hot Nebraska sun.  But Buell and other agricultural representatives are hot under the collar over proposed U.S. Labor Department rules they say could end the longtime tradition of young teens detasseling corn — and, on a broader scale, could restrict the type of work kids have done for years on the farm.
While the proposed changes are intended to protect kids from potential dangers related to machinery and livestock, Buell and farm groups, including the Nebraska Farm Bureau, think they go too far. They fear youngsters would be stripped of an opportunity to build a work ethic and an enthusiasm for farming as a potential career. More here

UK plans money clamp-down if Euro implodes

The British Treasury is working on contingency plans for the disintegration of the Euro which include capital controls, the Telegraph reports. "The preparations are being made only for a worst-case scenario and would run alongside similar limited capital controls across Europe, imposed to reduce the economic fall-out of a break-up and to ease the transition to new currencies.
Officials fear that if one member state left the euro, investors in both that country and other vulnerable eurozone nations would transfer their funds to safe havens abroad."

Obama: 'Most dangerous and damaging US President ever'

What is happening in American politics is simply astounding," writes British commentator Melanie Philips. "Here is an incumbent President whose approval ratings are rightly dire. He is the most far-left, dangerous and damaging President the US has ever known. In office, he has amply fulfilled the worst fears of those like myself who warned well before he was even elected that his agenda was to neuter America’s influence abroad and to extend the reach of the state into people’s lives at home.
In foreign policy, he has made the world an immeasurably more dangerous place by strengthening America’s enemies and dumping on its allies (even vitiating the sacrifice of America's own soldiers in Iraq, now poised to descend into world-threatening anarchy because of the militarily illiterate and defeatist withdrawal of US forces from there.)"  More here.

How Democrats fooled California's redistricting commission

"This spring, a group of California Democrats gathered at a modern, airy office building just a few blocks from the U.S. Capitol. The meeting was House members only — no aides allowed — and the mission was seemingly impossible. In previous years, the party had used its perennial control of California’s state Legislature to draw district maps that protected Democratic incumbents. But in 2010, California voters put redistricting in the hands of a citizens’ commission where decisions would be guided by public testimony and open debate. The question facing House Democrats as they met to contemplate the state’s new realities was delicate: How could they influence an avowedly nonpartisan process?"  Read this  compelling expose from Pro Publica.

Why the GOP must halt this disastrous gift to Obama

A proposal by House Republicans to roll back the maximum duration of unemployment benefits from 99 weeks to 59 passed the House by 234 to 193. If such a plan also passes the Senate, that would be politically ideal for President Obama, says Forbes
Reducing the amount of time people can collect unemployment benefits would clearly cut the unemployment rate below 8 percent by election time, greatly improving the President’s chances for re-election. Yet the President could nevertheless pretend not to appreciate this generous gift and instead castigate Republicans for being as cheap as Scrooge and as mean as the Grinch. From Obama’s point of view, that’s an ideal combination. Find out more.
